Why Whole Grains
• Many nutrients are stripped during the processing of whole grains into
refined grains.
• When a grain is refined, most of the bran and some of the germ is
removed, resulting in losses of fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, trace minerals,
unsaturated fat, and about 75 percent of the phytochemicals.
• A diet containing high levels of refined grains can compromise the immune
system and increase the chance of immune mediated diseases in dog such
as allergies.
• Compared to refined grains, most whole grains provide more protein, fiber
and other nutrients, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and many
phytochemicals.
